Born in Paris, Louis-Michel Le Peletier (or Lepeletier de Saint-Fargeau), the brother of Ferdinand le peletier, was a deputy for the nobility to the Estates General (1789), and was one of the first to join the Third Estate at the onset of the revolution of 1789. In 1792, he was reelected to the Convention and voted for the death of the king. He was, however, assassinated the next day by a royalist who was a member of the Royal Guard. Louis Michel Le Peletier was placed among the ranks of the "Martyrs for Liberty," like jean-paul marat, during the Montagnard Convention (see montagnards).
